Ex Stately Home Walnut Fire Screen

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A superb quality Victorian period walnut fire screen from Thoresby Hall the seat of Earl Manvers. The screen as would be expected is of the highest quality and was made by W.Bertam and Son of Soho London (their mark is on the side panel edges) who were commissioned by the third Earl to make pieces for the house in the 1870''s. The screen is in excellent condition, although the fabric is most likely later. The walnut is a wonderful dark colour and has the original patina. The contents of Thoreby Hall, Nottinghamshire were sold by Sotheby''s in 1989, the screen was not in the sale but kept by the family until recently.
