The cock-beaded drawers features feature ebony diamond shaped key escutcheons with old replacement brass swan neck handles. The drawers feature working locks and keys. On the back of the desk, there are a further eight “sham” drawers which are not designed to open. All drawers are hand dovetailed and constructed with solid oak drawer linings. Below, the plinth is finished with a reeded edge detail. The desk stands on its original length turned feet. The desk is freestanding which means it can be situated in the centre of the room. The desk is a single piece and does not dismantle.

The desk is constructed of the best quality Cuban mahogany timber available at the time. During this period, England was importing top quality timber from the colonies and tropics. Displaying a beautiful rich deep red mahogany patina, the desk is of superb quality and is heavy in weight.
