This herringbone inlay is also present around the perimeter of the leather desktop. The drawer fronts also boast stunning flame mahogany veneers. The table stands on elegant tapering legs, all of which are decorated with refined satinwood string inlay. The legs terminate on the original brass square collars and castors.

Provenance:

Maple & Co. of 149 Tottenham Court Road, London, during the late part of the Victorian period and early 20th century were the most renowned English cabinetmakers of their time. They made and retailed their own furniture specialising in top quality pieces replicating Georgian designs, such as the Hepplewhite and Chippendale but also were well known for their quality Arts & Crafts furniture. Off the back of the expansion of the British Empire in the Victorian period, they rapidly grew their business to become the largest fine furniture maker, supplier to the interiors industry and furniture retailer globally.

Dimensions:

Height = 78.1cm or 30¾” or 2ft 6¾”

Width = 122cm or 48” or 4ft

Depth = 56.8cm or 22” or 1ft 10”

Knee Height = 57.8cm or 22¾” or 1ft 10¾”

Knee Width = 51.8cm or 20” or 1ft 8”

Condition Report:

This desk is in very good condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the desk, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. The hand-dovetailed drawers are constructed of solid mahogany and boast the original brassware. The drawers close flush to the frame. The green and gold tool leather is in good condition; there are some natural variations to the leather surface; however there are no rips, damage, ink stains or watermarks. This is a single piece desk.

The price does not include the chair. It is for illustration purposes only.
