This is a superb quality late Victorian solid golden oak 4ft 2” wide roll top pedestal desk, circa 1880. It boasts four graduated drawers in each pedestal. The right hand pedestal features a filing drawer in the bottom drawer of the pedestal. The desk boasts solid golden oak fielded panels throughout and features the original oak cup handles to the pedestal. There is an oak modesty board, with two pullout-writing slides above 4 drawers in each pedestal. The interior has 13 internal drawers and 12 internal compartments and with brass finger hooks and knobs. The desk features a secret locking mechanism when the roll-top is closed which locks all the drawers except the central drawer. The brass tambour lock and key are in working order. The desk sits on its original castors. The internal drawers are constructed of sycamore. The oak has an excellent tight grain with a golden wax finish. The desk dismantles into three sections for easy storage or transportation.

The desk features a rich golden oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Condition Report:
The desk is in excellent original condition. There are no missing drawers or compartments to the interior. The desk features its original secret locking mechanism when the roll-top is closed which locks all the drawers except the central drawer. The desk sits on its original castors. There are no large ink or water stains on the desk (which are common on these desks). There are also no splits in the tambour (which again, is common in these types of desks). Some nominal old use marks to the leading edges and drawers, but nothing significant considering its age. The internal pedestal drawer linings are constructed of sycamore. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
