Here is an example of a fantastic quality antique Louis XV revival French walnut & leather carved centre room desk from the 2rd Empire period, circa 1850. The desk features a top quality dark blue leather with a gold-tooled perimeter inset into a walnut surround. The edge of the desktop features an elegant moulded edge. Below, there are three working recess moulded drawers each with their original elegant brass fretwork escutcheon. All drawers, which feature a working lock and key, are oak lined and hand dovetailed. Please note, this desk was not designed to have handles; the drawers are designed to be opened with the key. The desk was designed in this way to provide an elegant & minimalist look. The right hand drawer features an internal locking drawer, which is useful for storing private paperwork. Further below, the desk features a shaped apron, which is supported by four stunning carved cabriole legs. To the back of the desk, there is a set of dummy drawers. This desk was designed to be freestanding and sit in the centre of the room in order to show of its elegance and style from all angles; this is why there is decorative detail on the sides and back of the desk. This is a single piece desk and is not designed to dismantle.

This desk boasts a mellow walnut colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
