Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Aquatint is an intaglio printmaking technique, a variant of etching that creates tonal areas rather than distinct lines using acid to bite into a copper or zinc plate dusted with resin. Popularised in the late 18th and 19th centuries, it allows artists to render atmospheric, wash-like effects.

Antique aquatints are printed on paper using oil-based printing inks transferred from an etched metal plate. They often feature hand-applied watercolour washes or multi-plate coloured inks to achieve tonal depth and subtle colouration.

Authentic aquatints display a distinct plate mark, which is an impression border created by the metal plate under high pressure during printing. Under magnification, the tonal shading reveals a fine granular resin pattern rather than modern offset printing dots.

Place framed prints in simple wooden frames with acid-free mounts to create a focused visual accent. Group topographical prints together on a gallery wall or position a single print above a sideboard or console table.

Display paper prints away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and radiator heat sources to prevent fading and paper foxing. Use archival acid-free backing materials and UV-filtering glass when framing to protect the paper substrate.
