Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1910s.
It has a rectangular moulded top with early brown tooled leather writing insert above a central drawer with period pearl drop brass handles. A decorative carved apron spans the knee hole which is flanked by four drawers, again with brass pearl drop handles and displaying geometric Jacobean design mouldings. The front side edges are reeded and the desk stands on barley twist turned supports with bobbin turned feet and cross stretchers. It is a warm shade of oak with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
