Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1870s.
This mahogany desk is of the twin pedestal variety and dates from the Victorian period, circa 1870.
Each pedestal has four graduating mahogany lined drawers with moulded edges again with the original turned handles. The side edges of the desk are canted for that added bit of interest and the whole piece stands on a plain plinth with brown porcelain castors. It splits into three sections for ease of removal and has aged to a warm medium shade of mahogany which is full of the charm and character from age and use. It has a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
