Desk Oak Rare Arts and Crafts Fine Partners Desk Possibly Gillows C1890

Here we have a fine quality Victorian Arts and Crafts Oak large partners desk c1890. As you can see the desk has wonderful colour and patina. The carefully selected timbers have been quarter sawn to get the maximum effect from the Oaks medullary rays. The top has the original leather skiver with a deep border and moulded edge. The front has nine drawers with moulded fronts and original delicious brass and copper handles. The drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and are Oak lined throughout. The central drawer has a stamped number and the tell tale Gillow rear holes to allow for shrinkage in the base boards. Although we cannot find the number relating to a particular desk in the Gillow archives you will see the similarities in handles from our research (see photos). Of course the quality of the desk is unquestionably Gillows standard. There are fielded panels to the sides and the rear has sliding doors which reveal internal shelves. The desk sits on a plinth base. The desk splits for ease of moving. A wonderful rare period desk in super retail condition ready for youer home. The dimensions are approx 72 inches wide 48 deep and 30 high.
