Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1880s.
Showing signs of the emerging Arts & Crafts movement in its design it has a more unique look than many of its contemporaries. The rectangular moulded top has a tooled red leather writing insert above a central drawer over knee hole. Each pedestal has four graduating drawers displaying the original brass handles and stands on a plain plinth with castors. The desk splits into three sections for ease of removal and the walnut has aged to a warm medium shade. It has a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
