Antique Saryk Turkmen Shemle Gul Torba with Silk Highlights, Circa 1900

Description

Size: 4ft 4in x 1ft 1in (132 x 44cm).

Antique Saryk Turkmen torba with the ‘shemle’ gul design, this example is of the classic format for this design which is best known for the Salor examples that are published in most Turkmen books.

Circa 1900.

This example has fully saturated dyes with vibrant colour.

The weave is fairly coarse and the torba has a heavy handle.

There are coloured highlights that are woven in silk.

The torba is in original condition with slight even wear and good pile.

The remains of the original tassels are still attached.

The torba face has been hand washed and is ready for display.
