Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the 1870s.
The rectangular moulded top has rounded corners and comes complete with the original tooled leather writing insert (can be replaced upon request). The top sits above a wide central drawer over ample knee hole which is flanked by two pedestals. Each pedestal has four graduating, cock beaded, mahogany lined drawers with period brass handles. Each drawer has a working lock operated by a single key. The desk stands on a plain plinth and has a finished back so maybe placed in the centre of a room if so desired. It is full of charm and character from years of use and has aged to a warm medium shade of mahogany with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
