This is a superb quality late Victorian solid oak 4ft 2” wide roll top pedestal desk, circa 1880. It boasts four graduated drawers in each pedestal. The right hand pedestal features a filing drawer in the bottom drawer of the pedestal.
On each side of the tambour, there is a posting slot for mail (this allowed people to post mail into the desk while the tambour was locked). The tambour also features the original leather studs, which stops the tambour slamming on the desktop. The tambour and pedestals are both stamped with a reference no. 46895. There is an oak modesty board, with two pullout-writing slides above 4 drawers in each pedestal. The interior has 10 internal drawers with brass finger hooks and 22 internal compartments. The desk features a locking mechanism when the roll-top is closed. The tambour lock and key are in good working order. The top central drawer features a working lock & key. The internal drawers are constructed of sycamore and features adjustable wooden dividers in each drawer. The oak has an excellent tight grain with a wax finish. The desk dismantles into three sections for easy storage or transportation.

Condition Report:
The desk is in excellent condition; it has recently been cleaned and is in complete working order. There are no missing drawers or compartments to the interior. It features a working lock and key to the tambour and central top drawer to the pedestal. There are no ink or water stains on the desk (which are common on these desks). The tambour is free running and is not stiff to move up or down. Some nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering its age. The internal pedestal drawer linings are constructed of sycamore. Free of worm-worm, solid in joint and ready to use.
