Mid 19thc English Fine Quality Burr Walnut Bonheur Du Jour, in the French Style

A mid 19thc fine quality burr walnut bonheur du jour in the French style.

The top has a structure of six small drawers, three either side of a cupboard, all having a fine quality pierced brass gilt gallery to the top.

The drawers consist of burr walnut veneer on the fronts, all intricately strung with boxwood and banded with tulipwood with designs of boxwood inlay.

The bottom right hand drawer is fitted with a pen compartment.

The central cupboard is again inlaid with boxwood, the door has a fine quality brass lattice work panel with a red silk fabric lining.

There are also decorative ormolu mounts and an escutcheon with key which can be locked.

Inside the cupboard is one shelf, the cupboard being lined with red velvet fabric.

The desk section of the piece is of serpentine shape, veneered in burr walnut.

It has a central oval panel of original red Moroccan tooled leather which is in lovely condition.

This section is framed with brass and gilt metalwork with an ebonised moulding.

The sides and front are serpentine in shape, again veneered in burr walnut. The sides and side rails are shaped with ormolu mounts to the centre with boxwood stringing.

There is a drawer to the front of the desk, again in burr walnut with decorative & fine quality ormolu handles & mounts and a decorative central boxwood inlay.

This leads down to four cabriole legs, each again with good quality ormolu mounts to both the top and base of the legs.

This is an English piece of furniture, designed in the French style and is of excellent quality.

This piece was purchased from a private collection and is in excellent condition, is structurally sound and can go straight into a home.
