A Beautiful Davenport by Gillows of Lancaster

19th century
Description

A particularly fine quality early/mid 19th century rosewood DAVENPORT (or writing desk) by GILLOWS of LANCASTER.

There are many good features which include: original brass gallery; blind-tooled leather writing surface; beaded edges to the sloping top; fitted interior with small drawers; "secret" hinged pen-and-ink drawer; large slides to either side; three mahogany-lined drawers (dummy drawers on the opposite side); original handles; original "apple-shaped" feet and concealed castors within.

The top slides forward when in use and it is complete with a copy of the original drawing (see picture below). Superb colour and condition.
