Here is an example of a fantastic quality antique Victorian 5ft mahogany and leather partners’ desk, circa 1850. The desk boasts a lovely red & gold tool leather skiver insert surrounded a by a moulded thumb edge top. Below, there are 9 large working drawers to the front. The cock-beaded drawers feature the original brass key escutcheons and original mahogany turned knobs. All drawers feature working “Hobbs & Son London” stamped locks; there are working keys, which operate all drawers and doors. On the back of the desk, there are a further three drawers and below there are two cupboards; one with two sliding trays and the other with vertical storage compartments. Each drawer features lovely thumb moulded fronts as well as the cupboard doors. All drawers are constructed with solid mahogany drawer linings, which have been hand-dovetailed. Below, the pedestals feature a traditional rectangular plinth. The desk is freestanding which means it can be situated in the centre of the room. The pedestals can be rotated to either have all drawers on one side or alternate each side so that you have one cupboard and a set of drawers each side. The desk can be dismantled into three sections for easy transport.
