Quality Mahogany William IV Kneehole Desk

A fine and unusual William IV Mahogany Kneehole Desk. The desk is estate made, of fine quality with solid timbers and hardwood lined drawers. The desk sits on a plinth base with either side of a central cupboard, banks of four graduated drawers. The top has an ogee moulded front which hides three more drawers. The piece is interesting as it uses various timbers, including mahogany but also variants woods similar to mahogany, the drawers are also lined with a hardwood which isn't easily recognizable, it is thus probable that this is an estate made desk produced in a British colony abroad. The desk is of the highest quality although plain in design, and in excellent condition with original turned knob handles. This is an interesting piece, in design harking back to Georgian times, but also very functional and would work as a desk or small sideboard. C.1835.
