Rosewood Library Writing Table by Gillows

Description

GILLOWS of LANCASTER: A superb quality mid 19th century rosewood LIBRARY WRITING TABLE by this eminent and highly regarded firm of English cabinetmakers.

The top, with its rounded corners, retains its original cast and gilded shaped gallery to three sides and is fitted with a good blind and gilt-tooled pale green leather writing surface. The shallow frieze conceals two large mahogany-lined drawers and it is supported on shaped "standard" ends leading to 'melon' feet and the original cast brass castors. 48ins wide; 28ins deep.

**A virtually identical Writing Table with the same gallery and supports, is illustrated and fully described in "Gillows of Lancaster" by Susan Stuart, Volume I, pages 269-271
