Desk Gillows of Lancaster Victorian Oak Partners Desk C1895 Westminster Council

Here we have a wonderful Victorian Oak Gillows of Lancaster partners desk c1895. As you can see the desk has exceptional colour and patina. This remarkable desk is as you would expect of the highest quality. All the locks are stamped Gillows Lancaster and the underside of one drawer is stamped L 26848. The desk came from Westminter City Council offices. The top has a raised platform with a tooled and gilded leather skiver either side. There is a configuration of three drawers and two cupboards to either side. The top has a moulded edge with reeded fronts and chamfered edging to the drawers. The cupboard doors also have reeded decoration with a plinth base and moulded top. The usual tell tale extras from Gillows apply to this desk with quadrant lined drawers to stop dust collecting and of course grooved rear screw holes in the drawer base boards to prevent splitting. This high quality desk has wear and bruises which just add to its appeal it has a look of a desk straight out of a Dickens novel. The desk splits into three parts. It has outstanding quality as you would expect from Gillows along with sympathetic wax polishing so as not to ruin its originality. A wonderful period Gillows desk in great retail condition ready for your home. The dimensions are approx 54 inches wide 61 deep and 30.5 high.
