Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chests of drawers from this period often feature flame mahogany veneers, hand-carved pilasters or turned columns, and solid construction. They typically include a configuration of smaller top drawers set above several full-width graduated drawers.

These pieces were primarily constructed using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary woods such as pine or oak. Drawers were assembled using hand-cut dovetail joints and fitted with turned wooden knobs or cast brass handles.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display hand-cut dovetail joints, uneven drawer linings, and natural wood shrinkage along grain lines. Look for natural oxidation on the timber backing and original lock mechanisms inside the drawers.

Position the chest against a neutral or dark accent wall to accentuate the rich wood tones. Pair it with modern artwork, simple table lamps, or contemporary ceramics to create a balanced, transitional interior scheme.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the wood finish. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber warping or veneer lifting.
