Rare American Roll Top Desk

1900 - 1920
Description

I say 'rare' because in all my 40 years of trading in the antiques business, I have never seen this model before.

The beautifully cast ornate handles are original to this piece as is the lock but we have had a replacement key made. All the locks are in fully working order and the roll and the drawers all run smoothly.

Regarding the 'winged' sides...I am really not sure of their use although there must be one! Once again, they are all totally original.

There are slides that pull out on each side of the kneehole. The drawers are a mixture of wooden compartments and filing sections.

The desk measures

54inches wide

36 inches deep

48 inches high

The kneehole measures

20.5 inches wide

27.5 inches high

From floor to the writing surface is

33 inches high.

The desk stands on hidden original casters so is easyily moved for cleaning behind the desk .

The back of the desk is panelled in a combination of oak and walnut veneer so it could be a centre of room piece.
