Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique French Provincial bedstead from the 1800 period is made from warm brown walnut with inlaid timber. The piece is finished on both sides so it can stand freely in a room. It includes a triangular pediment decorated with diamond marquetry inlay, tall turned corner posts topped with urn finials, and crisp linear mouldings framing the main panels. The dimensions are 132 cm high, 11 cm wide, and 195 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this bedstead serves as a striking centrepiece in a master bedroom or guest suite, offering versatile placement options thanks to its fully finished double-sided design. The rich timber tones and classical geometry coordinate easily with traditional or eclectic interior schemes.

FAQs

French provincial bedsteads from the 19th century frequently combine classical forms with regional timber work, featuring detailed timber inlays, geometric pediments, and turned corner posts.

These bedsteads were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods such as walnut, fruitwood, or oak, often incorporating detailed marquetry or parquetry veneer work using contrasting timber.

Authentic pieces typically showcase hand-cut joinery, traditional peg construction, natural timber shrinkage along panel seams, and historical wear around fixing points.

A classic timber bedstead serves as a central element when paired with crisp neutral linen bedding, plain walls, and minimalist contemporary nightstands.

Maintain the wood finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a quality beeswax polish twice yearly, avoiding direct sunlight and extreme humidity changes.
