Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The interior reveals the gold embossed leather writing surface which has been professionally replaced to give years of future use, this is surrounded by Tulipwood cross-banding. There is a removable pen rest with storage below, a sloped section for pen nibs and two replacement brass topped glass inkwells, one for red ink, one for black.
The divider next to the right hand inkwell is pulled to remove the sprung panel covering the two secret drawers below.
A wonderfully decorative gem, measuring 13 1/2" x 9 1/2" x 6" while closed.
