Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1900s:
Slotted screws securing the lower collars: traditional brass fittings predating modern cross-head screws.
Cast brass knopped finials and joints: decorative metalwork in keeping with the decade.
Mellow surface patina with soft tarnishing in recesses: many decades of gentle handling.
Period wheel casters beneath turned foot collars: standard rolling fittings of the era.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

FAQs

Victorian brass bedsteads emerged in the nineteenth century, featuring tubular brass construction, vertical spindles, turned collar details, and decorative spherical finials on corner posts.

These bedsteads were typically constructed using hollow or solid brass tubes fitted over cast iron internal armatures, secured with cast joints and finished with brass hardware and castors.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples feature heavy cast iron dovetail corner joints, original brass or porcelain castors, and natural surface patination rather than modern electroplated coatings.

The metallic brass frame pairs effectively with crisp white linen, layered natural textiles, or bold wall colours to create balanced visual texture in contemporary or period bedrooms.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and avoid abrasive chemicals; unlacquered brass can be preserved with microcrystalline wax or specialized metal polish to control tarnishing.
