Webberley Antiques has dated this Gilt Bronze Ceres Sculpture to the 19th Century.
The goddess wearing a laurel leaf and metal head dress, sits on a well shaped decorative plinth, she is draped in fine satin or silk robes tied below her bust and again with a wide ribbon tied below her waist. Her feet bare and her eyes lowered to examine the wheat in her hand.

The plinth stamped Bouret and the whole set on the original black and green solid marble plinth.
In very good condition throughout and with a lovely colour.

Lovely original gilding and patina with no breaks or repairs to the bronze or to the plinth.
Eutrope Bouret was born in Paris in 1833 to an artistic family. His father fitted bronze mounts and fettled bronze figures. The young Eutrope trained under the well respected sculptor Louis Charles Hippolyte Buhot, sculpting in marble and producing large works in bronze. By 1875 he was exhibiting at the Paris Salon as a highly celebrated and sought after artist. His work is finely detailed and he was known for works which spanned 40 years and which captured romantic and neoclassical subjects as well as his later work in the Art Nouveau period. He produced several sculptures in bronze and marble of the Goddess Ceres.

The bronze is in original condition and has not been restored or polished.
Extremely heavy and high quality, the detailing is exquisite and this is an early bronze with antique gold gilding. The Goddess has a remarkably calming effect.

A very good and early Grand Tour example of Bouret’s work and dating from around 1880.
Dimensions are:
30 cms high, approximately 14 cms wide and 14.5 cms deep. The marble plinth is approximately 3 cms high.
