This 18th-century Georgian neoclassical stipple engraving by Georg Sigmund Facius and Johann Gottlieb Facius after Sir Joshua Reynolds depicts the allegorical figure of Justice standing amid clouds. The monochrome print is executed in black ink on moderately thick, moderately textured beige laid paper with wide margins. The female figure wears classical drapery with braided hair, holding up a pair of scales in her left hand and pointing a sheathed sword downward with her right hand. The print shows light staining, a small tear near the top edge, and a paper name tab attached below the text identifying Harriet, Lady Rooke, daughter of Colonel William Burrard. The sheet measures 60.3 cm by 40.5 cm. This piece fits well in a gentleman's library or study, specifically suited for hanging on a narrow wall space. It is sold unframed without a mount. The subject matter reflects allegorical themes popular during the period, produced by London publisher J. Boydell in 1782. The work originates from the Burrard family collection and connects directly to family lineage records. It provides historical character and traditional visual interest when displayed on an interior wall.

During the 18th century, artists such as Sir Joshua Reynolds created allegorical figures representing virtues like Justice, Prudence, and Fortitude, which were widely reproduced as copperplate engravings for domestic interiors.

Georgian prints were predominantly created using copperplate etching or stipple engraving techniques, employing carbon-based inks impressed onto handmade rag paper.

Authentic prints from this era typically feature clear indented plate marks surrounding the image border, visible chain lines within laid paper, and publisher line inscriptions at the base.

Frame the artwork in a simple wooden mould and position it within a gallery wall, study, or reading alcove to provide historical contrast against modern furnishings.

Keep prints away from direct light sources, preserve stable humidity levels, and ensure UV-filtering glass and acid-free mounting boards are utilised.
