Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Venetian landscape paintings, historically termed Vedute, gained immense popularity during the 18th century as Grand Tour souvenirs. European aristocrats commissioned detailed architectural views of Venice to document their travels, establishing a lasting tradition in European fine art.

Classical landscape paintings are created using oil-based pigments applied to stretched linen or cotton canvas. Frames from this period are typically constructed from hand-carved timber coated in plaster gesso and finished with real gold leaf gilding.

Authentic paintings display natural signs of age such as delicate surface cracking known as craquelure, consistent patination on the canvas backing, and natural oxidisation on the wooden stretcher bars and gilded frame.

A large framed oil painting serves as a key focal point when positioned above a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or console table. Pairing classical artwork with clean-lined modern furniture creates a sophisticated contrast that highlights the detailed craftsmanship of the piece.

Keep the painting away from direct sunlight, excess moisture, and direct heat sources to prevent cracking or fading. Clean the surface gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding water or chemical cleaning solvents.
