Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These nineteenth-century Victorian fireplace bellows combine warm brown mahogany and polished brass to create a functional mechanical piece for the hearth. The design incorporates a hand crank with a turned wooden handle, a rotary spoked wheel, a driving band, and a tapered brass nozzle secured to a shaped wooden base. Visible details include exposed metal fixings, rivets along the curved brass casing, and a wall-mounting section at the rear. Measuring 21.5 cm high, 65 cm wide, and 15.5 cm deep, the unit fits neatly beside a living room fireplace or hearth. Homeowners place such decorative fireplace accessories near a wood-burning stove or open fire to maintain fires in a Highland hunting lodge or traditional interior setting.

FAQs

Mechanical rotary bellows are hearth devices developed in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to provide a continuous airflow to stoke open fires, particularly peat or coal fires. Unlike traditional concertina bellows, they utilise a crank-driven wheel mechanism to turn an internal fan for steady air delivery.

Traditional rotary bellows were typically constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak for the base and wheel housing, paired with cast brass or iron for the mechanical wheels, gears, and air nozzles.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-finished wood, hand-riveted metal joinery, cast metal wheels with visible casting marks or irregularities, and natural patina or surface oxidisation on the brass components.

These historical mechanical tools serve as functional decor when displayed alongside an open fireplace, stove hearth, or set upon a mantelpiece to complement traditional, rustic, or dark academia interior schemes.

Maintain the woodwork by dusting regularly and applying a microcrystalline wax polish to protect the timber. The brass elements should be dusted gently, leaving the historic patina intact rather than using abrasive chemical cleaners.
