This Edwardian fine art piece is a pastel portrait of a young boy by British artist Emily Eyres, dating from around 1900. The artwork depicts a child with blond curls, wearing a light blue smock featuring a white lace collar. The pastel and paper medium is set within a quality earlier giltwood frame displaying ornate corner mouldings, a dark green mount, and protective glass. The piece has been recently remounted by specialists. Measuring 80 cm high by 68 cm wide, the portrait brings a traditional English country house design vibe to interior spaces. It suits placement above a sideboard in a dining room, living room, or hallway. The work captures the distinctive portraiture style associated with Eyres, who exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1899 and 1904. The gilded finish of the frame complements period and transitional domestic interiors.

Pastel portraits from around 1900 are recognised for their soft, blended textures and luminous colour application, capturing delicate figurative details with speed and warmth.

Artists utilised dry pigment sticks bound with minimal binder on textured paper or card, typically mounted behind protective glass within gilded wooden frames.

Authentic period pieces often display hand-applied artist signatures, period-appropriate glass and backing boards, and delicate powder-like pigment surfaces showing subtle age-related settling.

Position the artwork above a wooden sideboard, mantelpiece, or within a gallery wall to create a traditional focal point that complements contemporary furnishings.

Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight and high humidity, ensure the glass does not directly touch the picture surface, and gently dust the gilt frame using a soft dry cloth.
