This Georgian-style antique chest originates from 1920, formed from mahogany and flame mahogany veneer in a warm brown tone. The serpentine front holds a pull-out brushing slide beneath the top moulding, above four graduated stacked drawers fitted with brass swan-neck handles and keyhole escutcheons. The timber shows rich figuring with lighter grain patterns radiating across the drawer fronts, resting above shaped bracket feet along the base. Natural signs of age appear on the polished wooden surfaces, including faint scuffs and surface variation from past use.Measuring 75 cm wide by 50 cm deep and 80 cm high, the compact proportions suit placement in a bedroom as a bedside chest of drawers, or within a hallway or living room corner to provide concealed storage surfaces.

A chest of drawers featuring a brushing slide includes a pull-out shelf positioned directly beneath the top surface. Historically introduced during the 18th century, this feature provided a dedicated surface for brushing, folding, or laying out garments.

Traditional 18th and 19th-century chests were constructed using solid hardwood framing with decorative flame mahogany veneers applied to drawer fronts. Drawer linings were frequently made of pine or oak joined with hand-cut dovetails and fitted with cast brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of hand construction, such as irregular dovetail joints, hand-planed back panels, and natural timber shrinkage along drawer bottoms. Original brass handles often show minor surface casting marks and gradual oxidisation corresponding with age.

An antique mahogany chest functions well as a focal point in an entryway, living area, or bedroom. Pairing dark timber tones with neutral wall palettes, contemporary lamps, or structural ceramics creates contrast between historic and modern elements.

To preserve the timber finish, dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Avoid placement near direct heat sources or bright sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage and veneer movement.
