This mid-nineteenth-century antique English Victorian copper spirit kettle and stand by Mappin & Co. of Oxford Street, London, dates from circa 1862 and comes complete with its original burner. The design incorporates a fluted base stand, a gooseneck spout, an overhead swing handle, and white opaline glass fittings including turned handle grips and a matching finial, whilst the inside of the lid bears the stamped maker's mark. Condition notes include a chip to the finial. The vessel measures 39.3 cm high, 30.5 cm wide, and 30.5 cm deep. In a modern interior, this piece serves as a decorative display item on a sideboard top within an English country house setting. The warm copper tones and brass details provide a traditional accent for a dining room or living space, pairing functionality with historical character.

A spirit kettle is a table kettle mounted on a stand with an integrated burner, designed to keep water warm for serving tea in nineteenth-century dining rooms without requiring trips to the kitchen.

Victorian spirit kettles were predominantly fashioned from polished copper, brass, or silver plate, often featuring turned ceramic, wooden, or bone insulated handles to protect the user from heat.

Authentic examples typically exhibit hand-riveted joints, maker stamps, registration marks on the base or rim, and natural surface patination along join lines and burner stands.

A spirit kettle serves as an architectural accent when positioned on a dining room sideboard, a kitchen island, or integrated into a dresser display alongside period ceramics.

The metallic surface should be cleaned using warm water and a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh abrasive chemicals that strip protective patination or erode ceramic fixtures.
