This 1910 Scandinavian Country runner rug is a long, hand-loomed flatweave floor covering made from cotton, wool and linen. The textile displays a linear striped pattern in warm beige, terracotta, brown and yellow, complete with hand-tied fringe at the end. Measuring 490 cm wide and 64 cm deep with a flatweave texture, this rustic farmhouse piece works as a functional floor covering in hallways or kitchens. Traditional Swedish rag runners, known as trasmatta, are formed by weaving strips of recycled everyday clothing and textiles onto a warp. This antique floor covering carries a low profile of 0.5 cm high, suiting placement beneath interior doors and along long circulation spaces in a modern home today.

A Swedish flatweave runner, traditionally known as a trasmatta, is a narrow handwoven floor covering created using flatweave weaving techniques popular in Scandinavia since the nineteenth century.

These textiles are typically woven on a sturdy linen or cotton warp using recycled fabric strips, wool yarn, or cotton rags to form striped geometric patterns.

Authentic pieces feature tight flatweave construction, hand-tied fringe ends, reversible striped or geometric motifs, and uniform hand-loomed weaving density.

Position the runner in narrow spaces such as hallways, galley kitchens, or landing areas to introduce texture and subtle colour palettes while protecting hardwood flooring.

Vacuum regularly on a low-suction setting without a beater bar, spot clean spills immediately with mild neutral detergent, and arrange professional dry cleaning for thorough restoration.
