Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These single beds date from the 1900 period in the Louis XVI Revival style, formed from wood with a cream and gold painted finish, woven cane panels, and gilt detailing. Each bed includes carved lion's paw feet at the base, fluted side posts with finials at the headboard corners, and an oval hand-painted portrait medallion set within the crest. The headboards and footboards incorporate woven rattan cane panels, parcel gilding, and moulding lines. The mattresses are newly made and remain wrapped in protective plastic. The dimensions are 145 cm high, 98 cm wide, and 210 cm deep. These bedsteads suit placement in a guest bedroom or principal bedroom suite within a traditional home, providing practical sleeping arrangements for single sleepers. The construction employs wood, paint, cane, and gilt materials, with strong original rattan cane and re-sprung bases with cotton ticking. The hand-painted portrait medallions draw on the Angelica Kauffman style, complemented by parcel gilt highlights and carved paw feet. The polychrome decoration presents a French Chateau visual aesthetic suitable for classic interior schemes.

FAQs

Emerging in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this style draws inspiration from classical antiquity, featuring straight lines, carved fluting, classical medallions, and soft painted finishes accented with gilding.

These pieces typically feature carved hardwood frames, hand-woven cane panels, hand-painted polychrome decoration, and water-gilded or leaf-gilded details on structural elements.

Look for genuine age-related craquelure on painted surfaces, natural wear on gilded high points, hand-carved joinery details, and hand-woven cane inserts showing authentic patination.

Incorporate painted single beds into guest bedrooms or childrens rooms alongside neutral linen bedding, contemporary lighting, and soft pastel wall tones to balance historic detail with modern simplicity.

Clean surfaces gently using a dry microfibre cloth, keeping pieces away from direct heat sources or damp environments, and avoid chemical solvents that could strip original paint and gilding.
