This mid 19th-century English pine bank of six drawers exhibits a warm brown colour with a waxed finish, presenting a practical layout arranged in two vertical columns beneath a moulded edge top and a plain plinth base. Each drawer is fitted with matching round turned wooden knobs, while the timber displays characteristic grain patterns and historical wear from being re-sized from a longer sideboard earlier in its life. Measuring 158 cm wide by 62 cm deep and 81 cm high, this functional piece provides ample storage for a bedroom, hallway, or living space as a chest of drawers. Its sturdy proportions make it well-suited for everyday domestic use while maintaining a rustic farmhouse presence in a traditional or contemporary interior scheme.

FAQs

A Victorian bank of drawers refers to a wide wooden storage cabinet containing multiple drawers arranged in columns and rows, produced in Britain during the nineteenth century.

These pieces were crafted primarily using solid European pine, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, wooden drawer runners, and turned timber knobs.

Authentic pieces exhibit nineteenth-century construction hallmarks, such as hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, hand-planed backboards, natural wood shrinkage, and original mortise locks.

Position the item as a low credenza in an entryway or living space, balancing the warm timber tone with modern ceramic vessels, contemporary art, and neutral wall colours.

Nourish the timber surface by applying a high-quality clear beeswax twice annually, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage.
