Huge Magnificent Antique Still Life Oil Painting – Fruit, Flowers & Banquet

Huge Magnificent Antique Still Life Oil Painting – Fruit, Flowers & Banquet

Brief Description:

This is a magnificent and exceptionally large Still Life Oil on Canvas Painting, depicting an abundant arrangement of fruit, flowers and vessels within a wonderfully atmospheric classical landscape setting.

This highly decorative composition is absolutely packed with detail.

A monumental urn overflows with colourful flowers, including roses and striking blue irises, while beneath sits an elaborate banquet-style display of grapes, apples, gourds and other fruits, arranged around an impressive pedestal bowl.

To the left, the still life opens into a romantic landscape of towering trees, distant hills and slender cypress trees beneath a softly illuminated sky, giving the composition wonderful depth and a distinctly Old Master-inspired character.

The artist has used a beautifully rich palette of deep greens, earthy browns, turquoise blues, warm ochres, reds and creams, with the darker woodland background providing a dramatic contrast to the colourful flowers and fruit.

Particularly attractive is the extensive natural-looking craquelure across the painted surface, which gives the work enormous decorative character and a wonderfully aged appearance.

The painting is signed by the artist in the lower right-hand corner.

It is presented within an impressive, substantial decorative frame, finished in muted ivory, silvered and gilt tones with classical leaf and rope-twist ornamentation. The frame complements the painting beautifully and adds considerably to its overall presence.

At approximately 57½ inches wide, this is a genuinely imposing statement painting which would look superb above a large fireplace, sideboard or console table, or displayed within a substantial entrance hall, dining room, drawing room or country-house interior.
