We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century European floral still life painting evolved from formal classical compositions into looser, Impressionist-influenced studies of light and texture. Artists focused on botanical detail, light reflection on glass vessels, and expressive brushwork to capture natural arrangements.

Artists typically used natural pigment oil paints applied onto stretched linen canvas or wood panels. Frames were predominantly constructed from timber with hand-carved details or moulded plaster coated in gold or silver leaf gilding.

Authenticity is indicated by natural age craquelure across the paint surface, historic canvas stretcher construction, and period-correct gilding wear on the frame. Additional signs include original artist signatures, provenance labels, and natural canvas oxidisation on the reverse.

Place the artwork as a focal point above a sideboard, fireplace mantel, or console table. Pairing ornate framed art with clean-lined contemporary furniture produces a balanced visual contrast within modern spaces.

Display the artwork away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and direct heat sources to prevent paint cracking or canvas warping. Dust the frame gently with a soft dry brush and consult a professional conservator for surface cleaning.
