This rare early nineteenth-century Victorian Chesterfield sofa is upholstered in a light beige fabric with button-tufted back upholstery and deeply scrolled arms. The frame stands on walnut turned legs to both front and back with original Cope and Collinson cup castors lacking the wheels, alongside iron stretchers to the underside that are later replacements, though slots for the original wooden stretchers remain visible. The piece also exhibits a slightly raised crescent back. Measuring 214 cm wide and 88 cm deep, this seating piece suits placement in a traditional living room, library, or drawing room as a central seating option in an English country house interior scheme.

Howard and Sons sofas are defined by their low profile, deep seating proportions, button-back upholstery, and ergonomic frame design developed in nineteenth-century England.

These seating pieces were constructed using solid hardwood beech frames, hand-tied steel coil springs, natural horsehair stuffing, and feather-and-down seat cushions.

Authentic period examples frequently feature maker stamps impressed onto the rear wooden legs, stamped brass castors, or original branded tick fabric lining.

Balance the historical form by placing the sofa alongside contemporary artwork, clean-lined side tables, and minimalist lighting fixtures to create a layered aesthetic.

Vacuum the upholstery regularly using a soft brush attachment, position the sofa away from direct sunlight to avoid fabric fading, and consult specialist textile restorers for stain removal.
