This French Art Deco table lamp from 1930 takes the form of an alabaster sculpture depicting a female dancer with a joyful expression and stylised drapery, posed atop an illuminated marble orb resting on a shell-shaped pedestal base. The piece employs cream and warm amber tones throughout the stone, complemented by intricate carved details on the dancer's costume, her headband, and the veining of the glowing globe. A bulb hidden underneath lights up the sphere, creating a warm glow that accentuates the natural translucency of the stone materials. The lamp measures 58 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 28 cm deep, making it suitable for display on a sideboard top in various traditional or contemporary settings around the home. It serves as a decorative focal point in a living room, hallway, or bedroom, providing soft accent lighting while functioning as a sculptural work of art.

Art Deco figural sculptures from the 1920s and 1930s frequently depict energetic dancers, classical nymphs, or geometric forms. They combine streamlined contours with translucent carved stone to produce functional ambient lighting.

Sculptors during the Art Deco period predominantly used soft, translucent minerals such as Italian alabaster, marble, bronze, and chryselephantine combinations of ivory and cold-painted bronze set upon stone bases.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-carved detailing, soft natural veining within the stone, period-appropriate wiring or lamp fitments, and subtle surface wear consistent with age.

Position the piece on a dark wood sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table where the translucent stone can be illuminated against a clean, neutral background to highlight its form.

Clean alabaster gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding water and liquid detergents which can dissolve or stain the porous mineral surface.
