Cheshire Antiques Consultant Ltd has dated this Victorian Persian Cat Painting to the 1910s.

Circa 1910-1920, with circa 1915 representing the central working date.
Signed A. Augusta Talboys R.W.A. lower left and further signed or inscribed with the artist's name and RWA designation verso.
Two grey kittens play inside a wicker basket at the left while another kitten turns towards the viewer. At centre, two white long-haired cats gather beside a cup and saucer. A final grey Persian peers inquisitively from behind the floral teapot at right.

The soft silver-grey and white coats contrast effectively with the deep green table covering and darker background. Blue, pink and warm floral details across the porcelain provide further decorative colour.

Talboys specialised in feline subjects. Documented paintings include Persian cats and larger groups accompanied by baskets, flowers, textiles and domestic objects.
Comparable works catalogued by Christie's demonstrate similar horizontal proportions and the artist's practice of signing the painted surface while additionally inscribing the reverse.

The reverse retains a partially visible Winsor & Newton London prepared-canvas stamp.
