A Georgian bowfront chest of drawers is characterized by its convex curved front face, popularised in the late eighteenth century. These pieces typically feature refined mahogany veneers, crossbanded borders, and balanced proportional drawer layouts.

Georgian cabinetmakers primarily used dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany for visible surfaces, often utilizing oak or pine as secondary lining woods. Hardware generally consisted of cast brass knobs, drop handles, or swan-neck pulls.

Authentic Georgian furniture features hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, uneven wood shrinkage lines, and original oak or pine back panels. Secondary timber oxidisation and historic drawer wear consistent with age also indicate authenticity.

A Georgian bowfront chest provides structured warmth in contemporary spaces, functioning as a hallway focal point or bedroom storage cabinet. Its curved front softens linear modern room arrangements while adding historical context.

Maintain mahogany surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a natural beeswax polish annually. Avoid placing the furniture in direct sunlight or near radiator heat sources to prevent veneer lifting and timber warping.
