Very Rare Museum Quality Solid 18ct Gold Omega Ladies Watch with Box and Papers from 1948

1920 - 1940
Description

This is a very fine and beautiful example of a ladies wristwatch made by the world renowned premier Swiss maker Omega.

This a very rare museum quality heavy Solid 18ct Gold Omega Cocktail watch from 1948 with its original box and original papers.

The heavy double curb link bracelet design clearly influenced by Chanel.

Everything is original and perfect, the watch looks almost unworn this is the kind of quality that is normally only found in the Omega museum.

The paperwork indicates that it was originally retailed in South Africa in 1948

The dial is in as new condition and just stunning with gilt hands and markers it has had no restoration.

It has the Omega logo on the winding crown, the dial and the case back. The case also has the Swiss hallmarks for solid 18ct gold.

It has its original calibre R11.5 manual winding movement with a serial number that matches the paperwork.

The movement has just been fully serviced and the case ultrasonically cleaned. It comes with a one year warranty.

The watch case measures 18mm in diameter not including the crown.

The heavy 18ct bracelet is full length and will fit a wrist size up to 7 1/4 inches or 18.5cm it can be reduced to fit a smaller wrist.

It has its early Brown Omega box in superb condition the hinges work perfectly and it snaps shut just as it should.

Watches like this are normally only found in the Omega museum and this one looks as if it was rarely worn, it would certainly make a perfect gift.

You will never see another one.

We offer a highly personalised and bespoke service.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late 1940s, womens wristwatches transitioned from delicate Art Deco styles to bold, sculptural mid-century designs. Many featured integrated gold bracelets, textured dials, and compact mechanical movements manufactured by prestigious Swiss makers.

High-end timepieces from this era were predominantly crafted from solid 18ct or 14ct yellow gold, rose gold, or platinum. Dials often incorporated textured guilloche patterns with acrylic or mineral glass crystals protecting hand-wound mechanical movements.

Authentic pieces feature crisp hallmark stamps on the inside of the case back indicating gold purity, along with a unique serial number on the movement. The dial should display precise branding and typography consistent with mid-20th-century Swiss manufacturing standards.

A vintage gold bracelet watch serves as a dual-purpose piece of jewellery and horology that complements formal evening wear or adds refined structure to relaxed everyday tailoring. Layering it alongside subtle gold bangles enhances its warm, sculptural aesthetic.

To preserve the mechanism, mechanical watches should be serviced every three to five years by a qualified horologist and kept away from moisture and strong magnetic fields. The gold exterior can be gently cleaned using a soft microfibre cloth without abrasive chemicals.
