Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian mahogany pedestal desks are defined by two supporting side structures containing drawers or cupboards, topped with a flat surface often inset with toolled leather. Popular in the 19th century, they frequently feature flame mahogany veneers, brass fitments, and turned feet or plinth bases.

Primary construction utilised solid mahogany and cut mahogany veneers, often applied over pine or oak carcasses. Surface tops were routinely fitted with dyed gilt-tooled leather, while drawers and locks featured cast brass hardware and steel lock mechanisms.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass lever locks, and natural shrinkage marks in the wood grain over time. The presence of secondary timbers like pine or oak inside drawer linings and unpolished rear panels further indicates genuine period construction.

Positioning the desk as a focal point in a modern study creates an anchor for contemporary lighting and modern seating. Pairing dark mahogany timber with neutral wall colours or muted blue tones creates a balanced juxtaposition between historic craft and modern minimalism.

Clean timber surfaces with a dry microfiber cloth and apply high-grade beeswax twice yearly along the wood grain. Protect the leather inset surface from direct sunlight to prevent drying, applying specialized leather balm sparingly to preserve flexibility.
