Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the nineteenth century, padouk wood was highly prized in colonial trade for its stability, dense grain, and deep reddish-brown tone. Furniture produced in this style frequently combined European utilitarian forms with regional artisanal carving techniques.

Authentic nineteenth-century sideboards of this region are crafted from solid padouk or teak timber using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery. Panels are typically hand-carved in relief with high-density floral or foliate motifs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved variations rather than machine perfection, along with structural indicators such as hand-cut dovetails and natural wood shrinkage consistent with age. Padouk wood also displays a distinctive weight and rich natural oils visible under historic finishes.

Pair heavily textured dark timber sideboards with neutral wall tones such as plaster or soft cream to balance the visual weight. Position statement lighting or contemporary ceramics above the piece to create a harmonious mix of eras.

Dust regularly using a soft, lint-free cloth following the direction of the carved grain. Apply high-grade natural beeswax periodically to protect the timber, and maintain stable indoor humidity levels to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting.
