Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian flame mahogany sideboards are defined by their substantial proportions, rich reddish-brown timber, and architectural detailing. They frequently incorporate book-matched flame mahogany veneers on cabinet doors, carved corbels, arched panels, and concealed drawers designed for dining room storage.

These sideboards were constructed primarily using solid mahogany for the framework and flame mahogany veneers over secondary timbers such as pine or oak. Hand-carved decorative elements, brass hardware, and polished finishes were standard features of British cabinetmaking during this period.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-dovetailed drawer joints, original locks and escutcheons, and natural shrinkage marks in secondary timbers. Look for uneven patina, historical wear along the plinth base, and hand-cut veneering techniques typical of mid-to-late Victorian craft.

A Victorian sideboard can act as a anchor piece in a modern dining room, hallway, or living space. Pair the dark timber with neutral wall tones, large-scale framed artwork above the top surface, and simple ceramic or glassware accents to balance the traditional woodwork.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting or wood split. Clean the surface using a soft, dry cotton cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year along the grain.
