The rich grain patterns and classical proportions suit traditional and transitional interiors alike, providing a stable surface for decorative items or a mirror while keeping apparel and belongings organised within living spaces.

FAQs

Originating in the early 19th century during the British Regency period, this furniture style is characterised by neoclassical proportions, clean symmetry, and the prominent use of rich timbers such as flame mahogany and rosewood.

Regency chests typically featured solid oak or pine secondary carcasses veneered with high-grade flame mahogany, alongside hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass escutcheons, and reeded or turned architectural details.

Authentic Regency chests often exhibit hand-sawn timber drawer bases, hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass locks with steel bolts, and subtle wear consistent with 19th-century cabinetmaking methods.

Pair the rich wood tones with neutral wall palettes, contemporary artwork, and minimal table lighting to create a balanced juxtaposition between historical craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent veneer lifting.
