Antique H & R Daniel Shrewsbury Tea & Coffee Cup Trio, Handpainted, C.1825 B

19th century
Description

An antique H and R Daniel trio of teacup, coffee cup and saucer in the Shrewsbury shape, pattern 4232. Each piece is handpainted with sprays of blue roses and other flowers. Dates to c.1825 - other pieces from the same service are also available in my shop at the time of listing.

Condition report:

Chips: none

Cracks: none

Crazing: Around the moulded edge of the teacup, seen from the underside, there are some vertical lines that in my honest opinion are tiny marks caused during the firing process and are not craze lines. Please see pictures of these. All three pieces are free from crazing and all ring true when lightly tapped.

Restoration: none

Gilding/pattern: excellent, with only very minor wear.

If you are interested in multiple items from my store, please ask, as it might be possible to create a custom order.

I post worldwide.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A porcelain tea trio traditionally comprises a teacup, a coffee cup, and a single matching saucer, produced during the early nineteenth century to allow hostesses to serve either beverage using one shared dish.

English ceramics from this era were primarily crafted from fine bone china, decorated using overglaze hand-painted enamel colours and burnished gilt leaf accents.

H & R Daniel porcelain pieces rarely feature factory marks, making identification dependent on distinctive handle shapes, elaborate moulded edges, specific pattern numbers, and characteristic floral painting styles.

Individual teacups and trios can be displayed on a sideboard top, arranged within a glazed cabinet, or used as decorative accents alongside stacked art books.

Hand-painted porcelain should be gently washed by hand in warm water with a mild dishwashing liquid, avoiding dishwashers, hot water, and abrasive sponges that strip gilding and enamel.
