Tom Campbell (1865–1943) – Original Scottish Highland Landscape Oil Painting

A very attractive original oil landscape by listed Scottish artist Tom Campbell (1865–1943), signed lower right.

The work depicts a Highland landscape with a rocky stream winding through open moorland, grazing sheep in the foreground and layers of distant Scottish hills beyond. Painted with attractive autumnal colouring and vigorous brushwork, particularly through the rocky foreground, water and foliage.

Published auction records report prices of up to US$1,525 for paintings, while a work on paper, An Artist Sketching by a Scottish Inlet, achieved US$1,634 at Christie's South Kensington in 2004.

Campbell was a Glasgow-based landscape painter best known for views of the Scottish Highlands, west coast and islands. He exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Although prolific in watercolour and gouache, his oil paintings are considerably less commonly encountered.

Condition: Painting appears in generally good vintage condition with age-related surface characteristics. Frame has light marks and wear consistent with age. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the condition description.
