Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century British landscape watercolour paintings are characterised by detailed depictions of natural scenery, watercourses, and geological features, executed using water-based pigments on paper. This era emphasised outdoor observational painting, capturing natural light and atmosphere.

These works were produced using natural earth pigments, gum arabic binder, and heavy cotton rag paper. They were typically presented in giltwood or composition moulding frames with protective glass to shield the paper substrate from atmospheric dust and soot.

Authentic works feature visible brushstrokes, original artist signatures or dates in graphite or paint, and characteristic paper toning or foxing. The reverse side often exhibits hand-cut wooden backing boards and period framing hardware.

A nineteenth-century watercolour can be placed on a focal wall above furniture or layered within a curated gallery wall alongside contemporary line drawings. The warm tones of a gilt frame complement dark painted walls or natural timber panelling.

Position the artwork away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and heat sources to prevent pigment fading and paper distortion. Ensure UV-filtering glass and acid-free mounting materials are utilised when reframing.
