This Victorian bow front chest of drawers is constructed from mahogany and pine with a warm brown colour and attractive figuring to the timber. The piece exhibits a bow front profile, a rectangular top with rounded front corners, and two short drawers positioned above three long graduating drawers, all fitted with turned wooden knobs. Further details include turned front feet and a shaped apron along the base. Fair antique condition is evident with general wear, marks and scratches throughout, losses to the veneer along the top edge and above the upper right drawer, staining, marks and age-related splits to the top and sides, and wear with variation in colour to the feet, while the drawers run well. Measuring 122 cm high, 120 cm wide and 54 cm deep, this chest provides substantial storage capacity. The traditional English country house design suits placement in a bedroom, dressing room or hallway as a practical storage unit for clothing, linens or household items, while the surface serves well for displaying lamps, mirrors or decorative objects.

A Victorian bowfront chest of drawers is characterised by its gently curved convex front facade, popularised during the 19th century to soften room lines while maximising interior storage volume.

Pieces from this era typically feature mahogany veneers laid over solid timber frames, hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, turned timber handles, and secondary woods such as pine or oak for drawer linings.

Authentic period chests display irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, original iron or brass mortise locks, hand-turned wooden knobs, and authentic age-related patination across the timber surfaces.

The substantial visual weight of dark mahogany can be balanced by positioning the piece against a neutral wall backdrop, topped with contemporary ceramics, minimalist table lamps, or modern framed artwork.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly, keeping the timber positioned away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent drying and movement.
