This antique mahogany pedestal desk, made in the Chippendale Revival style shortly before the First World War, showcases classical 18th-century details including Greek key decoration, blind fret moulding, ogee bracket feet and gadroon moulding. It retains its original high-quality working Chubb locks, dated 2 July 1914, and has been carefully restored to emphasise its craftsmanship, elegance and practicality. The solid mahogany top has remained in lovely condition after more than a century of use. If preferred, we can supply a removable leather writing surface, made to the highest standard, shaped to follow the desk’s profile and finished with baize on the underside. Unlike many early 20th-century Chippendale Revival desks, this piece was made using superior mahogany, especially evident in the impressive timber of the top. The desk offers generous working space and ample legroom, measuring 76 cm deep by 153 cm wide, with a kneehole of 65 cm high by 61.5 cm wide. It is a desk designed to be admired for generations.
